Job description:

Modern Rentals, Inc. is looking for a Small Engine Service Technician to join our Service Department.

This individual is responsible for providing various diagnostic and repair services to customers and company equipment.  Examples of equipment to be worked on include, but are not limited to: zero-turn, ride-on and walk behind lawnmowers, power washers, portable generators and snowblowers.


Job Duties & Functions:

  • Accepts repair orders from Service Manager
  • Uses available resources to assess service needs of assigned equipment repairs by inspecting & testing equipment to determine failures and/or missing/broken parts.
  • Prepares equipment repair estimates.
  • Communicates equipment service needs to Service Manager and contacts customer(s) for approvals as needed.
  • Work with Parts Department to obtain necessary parts for repairs or parts look-up assistance.
  • Work with Sales Department and customer regarding excessive cost repairs and new equipment purchase options.
  • Notifies Service Manager of any issues in regard to pending or completed repairs.
  • Records repairs made, time spent, and parts used.
  • Completes repairs and tests repaired equipment.
  • Turns completed repair orders with documentation into Service Manager for billing and customer notification.
  • Communicates with Service Manager and customer whenever there is re-work to correct issue and prevent it from happening again.
  • Assist with company equipment repairs as requested by Service Manager


Additional Items:

  • Saturday work rotation (1/month, you receive (1) day off during the week when you work that Saturday)
  • Must have own tools.  The company has specialty tools for Service Technician usage.
  • Possess knowledge & experience using & repairing lawn & garden equipment.
  • Attended trade school or has (2) years of hands-on experience.
  • Master Service Technician Certification preferred, but not required.
  • Computer skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Performs all tasks in a safe manner.
  • Must be reliable, self-motivated, honest, and work well with others.
  • Attends required service training and stays current on manufacturer service & equipment offerings.
  • Represents Modern Rentals, Inc. in a positive and professional manner at all times.

Job type:  Full Time


Expected hours per week:   40-50


Schedule:  8 hour shift Monday to Friday

                     Weekends as needed

                     Overtime


Pay:  $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
